I love food- maybe too much, but it's brilliant. There is such a wide variety but I had to narrow it down to my top 5 dishes. After serious thought I produced the following list:
Aah the Sunday Roast, it has to be the favourite meal of any true Brit. For those who don't know, it typically consists of:
My favorite parts have to be lamb with mint sauce, yorkshire puddings and marmite potatoes (yes marmite sounds bad I know but it tastes immense).
The full english breakfast is the second on my list and again will be many peoples lists. They are not the most healthy meals to be fair, but they are brilliant. They typically consist of:
I think that I probably like pie & mash too much. However, no matter how much I make it myself I can never recreate the magic produced at Manzes the famous pie & mash shop in Peckham, where I sometimes used to go on a Saturday afternoon before watching Millwall with my mates. The thing that makes it stand out is the liquor (non-alcoholic sauce made from parsley). It is green and doesn't look particularly nice, but it is amazing.
I love Gammon. Gammon is definitely my favourite meat and for those of you that do not know, Gammon steaks are very similar to bacon but alot thicker. Gammon is typically served with chips and beans or chips and peas, with either a fried egg or slice (or ring) of pineapple on top or beside. I personally prefer the pineapple. It is a strange combination but whoever invented it surely was a genius.
Lasagne is the only food of non-English origins in my top five. It of course is of Italian origin and typically consists of a layer of minced beef in a tomato sauce topped with white lasagne sauce and a sheet of pasta (called lasagna pasta) and then another layer of the minced beef topped with the white sauce and a sheet of pasta topped with cheese.
