About My...
Self
Born and raised in South East London, I became interested in computers and technology from an early age.
I always enjoyed IT and excelled in this field throughout my school years achieving the highest grades available in both GNVQ and A Level ICT. What I enjoyed most was the brief introduction to the Web and Web design on both courses.
I then went on to study BSc Multimedia Technology and Design at the University of Kent, where I am now approaching my final year and rapidly improving my skill set.
Away from the computer screen though, I am a very passionate sports fan. I enjoy both playing and watching a variety of sports including Football, Boxing, Golf, Snooker and Darts. I am very patriotic and will support my country in most sports.
I enjoy watching films, particularly comedies, gangster and action thrillers. My favourite actors are De Niro, Pacino and Denzel Washington.
I love music and my iPod contains an eclectic mix of genres from Rock to Ska to Hip-hop to Electro House. My last purchase was the Arctic Monkeys third album Humbug, and I am eagerly anticipating the new Jay-Z album.
Work Experience
After finishing school I worked on Saturdays at my dad´s car radiator company doing various jobs to earn some money whilst studying for my A Levels.
In October 2006 I began working as a supervisor at a local co-op (in Coney Hall). After moving to Canterbury as a student I transferred to a new store (in Whitstable). I finished the first year there and moved back home for the summer, where I was transferred to another local store (in Westerham). I was transferred back to Whitstable for year two of the degree and then back to Westerham again this summer. I will return to Whitstable again in September.
Although working in retail can be far removed from working as a web designer, I believe that I have learned and improved many valuable skills there as well as showing many good qualities.
Due to my unavoidable changing hours of availability I am not employed as a supervisor at Whitstable although I am, and have been, elsewhere.
I therefore have had to adapt to both being a member and a leader of the team. I have had the responsibility of the shop and everything that happens in it. I have had to delegate tasks and communicate effectively with other team members and also had to provide a good service to the customers. Thus far I have shown myself to be loyal, reliable and well equipped to deal with varying kinds of pressure.
Academic Achievements
I have always been willing and eager to learn more and was always told to aim for the highest grades in pretty much every stage of my education.
I have now completed two thirds of my degree, having been awarded distinctions after stage one and two. I hope that this will give me a good base in order to push for graduation with first class honours.
Examples of work created during this period are included here.
I was accepted onto the course having comfortably earned more than the required 280 UCAS points after completing my A Levels. I had taken a lot on, having to balance four subjects whereas 99% of students took only three subjects in the final year. My grades were as follows:
- ICT- A
- Accountancy- A
- Maths- C
- Chemistry- D
I also had a successful time towards the end of secondary school. I achieved 7 GCSE A*-Bs including English (AB), Maths (A) and Science (A*A*) as well as two distinction in GNVQ IT and Business Studies (worth 4xGCSEs As each).
I believe that my academic achievements date have shown that I have the ability to learn, learn fast and adapt to various different subjects at the same time.
