Intro

I am a third year student and budding web designer studying BSc Multimedia Technology and Design at The University of Kent, Canterbury. This is my portfolio of work. I have included both extra curricular work and relevant pieces of work produced as part of the degree.

I started the degree with no prior knowledge of any scripting, programming or markup languages and although I had used the Adobe Creative Suite programs Dreamweaver and Flash during my A Levels; all websites built were designed in tables and using the Dreamweaver interface for formatting text and creating links; and I'd only created short non-interactive animations in Flash.

I now have an excellent understanding of HTML and CSS as well as web standards and accessibility. I have covered and continue to develop on a very good grounding in several other languages such as, JavaScript, ActionScript 3.0, XML, C++ and Java. Early in my third year I will be learning XML in further detail as well as ASP.NET for both the E-Commerce Technology module and for my Final Year Project.

I have also built on my previous knowledge of Dreamweaver and Flash although I no longer use Dreamweaver for formatting. Recently I started to follow a lot of Photoshop-for-web tutorials and subsequently rapidly improved my Photoshop skills as well.

Non Web related modules that I have completed as part of my course include:

  • Using Maya and Photoshop to create and texture a 3D scene based on the City of Iron Forge scene in World of Warcraft.
  • Using Maya to animate a stick character and its surroundings.
  • Using Premiere Pro and After Effects to create an original 6 minute documentary and Encore to author the DVD.
  • Making a Connect4 game in C#
  • Creating C++ program that accepts a number and converts it into a Roman Numeral and vice versa.
  • Creating a basic flash animation modernising an Aesop fable.
